‘Have courage, the good seed will grow’ – Blessed Edmund Rice, founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers.
St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School as an Edmund Rice Institution is committed to an education that nourishes not just the minds of the children in its care but also their hearts.
The Brothers and staff members at St. Patrick’s School in the course of its long and illustrious history of over 129 years have always endeavoured to inculcate values of justice, empathy, generosity and sacrifice in the students.
“To exist is to change, To change is to mature, To mature is to go on Creating oneself endlessly".
“Change is the only constant”. Progress is impossible without change. The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the odd, but on building the new - Socrates. We at St. Patrick’s H. S. School, Asansol, are constantly persevering to bring about change that will positively impact the environment of the students in our care. The introduction of smart boards, the MCQ pattern for unit tests, Snap Homework, vocational education in our outreach programme, Nai Disha are just a few of the changes brought about in our system of education. We now have an “e” version of our school magazine “Impressions” with the view to eliminate the excess use of paper and to increase viewership. This consequently has a positive impact on the environment. It is in schools where most people discover their hidden talents and our school endeavours to nurture the talent and creativity that is innate in each student. Learning and innovating is not limited to schools and colleges. It is a cradle to death process. The school, however, plays a pivotal role in bringing about various changes that suit the dynamics of a changing world. It is committed to providing its students with the best in terms of pedagogy and infrastructure. Aristotle once said “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Apart from innovative learning and a well structured curriculum, the school hasn’t sidelined the importance of “value education”. While ensuring that the highest academic standards are maintained, we at St. Patrick’s School never lose sight of the fact that each of us has a responsibility towards the less fortunate members of our society. In keeping with the vision of our founder Blessed Edmund Rice, Nai Disha, an outreach programme catering to the needs of children on the margins, was started in the year 2002. Students of St. Patrick’s School are taught the importance of reaching out to those less fortunate than themselves. In doing so, they learn to be appreciative of the many blessings bestowed upon them by the Almighty and they also realize that in sharing some of their resources with the poor, they receive great blessings, peace and joy. In the words of Blessed Edmund Rice, ‘Were we to know the merit and value of only going from one street to another for the love of God, we should prize it more than gold or silver’. We are blessed to have a supportive management, dedicated teachers, cooperative and caring parents, hard working support staff that help in creating our school ambience that has a positive impact on the development of each child. It is conducive to positive learning. We strive to make the school journey of each child, a happy experience. I take this opportunity to thank all our parents and friends of the school for their constant support.
God Bless!Mr. Nigel Michael D'SouzaPrincipal
