CCBI Founder’s Cup, 2025: A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Spirit

Description: St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School, Asansol had the proud privilege of hosting the prestigious CCBI Founder’s Cup, 2025 from 12th to 14th July. Over these three exciting days, young sportsmen from across the country gathered for a vibrant celebration of skill, discipline, and camaraderie. The tournament saw enthusiastic participation from the following Christian Brothers’ institutions: St. Columba’s School (New Delhi), St. Joseph’s College (Kolkata), Goethals Memorial School (Kurseong), St. Edmund’s School (Shillong), St. John’s High School (Chandigarh), St. Vincent’s High and Technical School (Asansol), St. Mary’s High School and Orphanage (Kolkata), and St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School (Asansol). This year’s tournament was truly special as, for the very first time and in keeping with the vision of our beloved founder, Blessed Edmund Rice, one of our teams comprised students of St Patrick’s School Asansol and students of Nai Disha, our outreach programme. Their presence brought a deeper meaning to the event, reminding us that sport, like education, is a bridge that unites hearts. This inclusive spirit truly echoed the Founder’s dream of reaching out to the marginalised and creating opportunities for all. Three key events formed the heart of the tournament: Under-13 Table Tennis, Under-19 Table Tennis, and the highly anticipated Under-17 Football Championship. In the Under-19 Table Tennis Finals, St. Patrick’s Team A showcased precision and poise, securing a convincing win against St. Vincent’s High and Technical School. The Under-13 Table Tennis title also went to St. Patrick’s, who triumphed over St. Joseph’s College, Bowbazar in a spirited match. The football finale was nothing short of electrifying. In a nail-biting finish, St. Edmund’s School, Shillong edged out St. John’s High School, Chandigarh with a thrilling 2–1 victory, thus lifting the Under-17 Founder’s Football Cup for the second consecutive year. The opening ceremony, held on 12th July, reflected the spirit of unity and celebration. A graceful classical dance, an energetic English fusion performance, and a soulful choral presentation added colour and culture to the morning. The tournament was officially inaugurated by our Community Leader, CL Brother Leonard Lobo, whose words of encouragement inspired all present to strive for excellence with humility and heart. The closing ceremony, held on 14th July, was a fitting end to three days of unforgettable competition. Presided over by Brother Vinod Gabriel Thomas, the ceremony acknowledged the remarkable talent and sportsmanship displayed by every team and extended gratitude to the participating schools for their enthusiastic involvement. Congratulations and sincere appreciation to all the participating teams, who, with their dedication, integrity, and team spirit, made the CCBI Founder’s Cup 2025 a resounding success. A special thank you to the Principals for their support in sending teams and keeping the spirit of this brotherhood alive through sports.
