Description:
Edmund Rice: A Light in the Darkness “ In shadows deep where hope was thin, One man heard the call within. With gentle hands and vision wide, He walked where pain and need abide. He saw not just the hunger and strife- But seeds of hope, of better life Through books and care, through faith and grace, He built a brighter, kinder place. Let this poem now unfold, A tale of courage, strong and bold. Of Edmund Rice whose burning flame Still lights the world in learning’s name. Not wealth nor praise did he pursue, But love and learning strong and true. With books and bread, with care and grace He built a school, a sacred space. His legacy still walks today, In halls where young minds find their way. With faith and justice, strong and wise, We see the world today through Edmund’s eyes.” St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School celebrated Founder’s Day on 5th May in honour of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, the visionary founder of the Christian Brothers. The day began with a special morning assembly conducted by students from Classes 6 to 12, featuring heartfelt poems, songs, and reflections inspired by Edmund Rice’s life and values. Following the assembly, students across various classes took part in meaningful activities such as letter writing to Edmund Rice, creating word clouds, and sharing words that best described his spirit and legacy. A quiz on his life further deepened the students’ understanding of his remarkable journey and enduring impact. Later in the day, a solemn Mass was held to mark the occasion, followed by a fellowship lunch. We were pleased to be joined by the teaching and non-teaching staff of our neighbouring Christian Brother institution, St. Vincent’s High and Technical School, making the celebration even more memorable. The day served as a reminder of the values Edmund Rice stood for—faith, compassion, and service—and inspired all present to carry forward his mission in their everyday lives.
